Welch, OK 2021

How I spent most of the trip to Welch, OK

Not sure how I ended up in the back seat of my own car getting blown away, but there you have it.

Where is Welch?

It’s a sweet little town right on the Oklahoma-Kansas border. Here’s a look down Main Street.

Of course no town is without a few problems.  A fire it seems…

The Post Office on Main…

A little more of the town…

Heading out to find the Amish houses. It’s wide open country, with lots of fields with both pastures and crops. Mostly dirt roads where we went.

I love seeing the Amish caution signs.

One of the houses we found.

There were phone shanties outside of each house or barn. The houses are kind of spread out so I can see where one shanty for several houses wouldn’t be helpful.

Another farm…

same farm but a little different view…

Check out the phone shanty between the house and the barn…

A few more pics…

Beautiful Oklahoma…

Of course there are several other things to take note of when you’re out driving around.

How about Buck Snort Farms? As far as I’m concerned, it gets two thumbs up for the name alone. And it provided a little diversion as we were driving around.

I’ve never seen anything like this before. But it was a Beetle so of course I spotted it.

If you go into town, be sure to eat at The Cow Restaurant. It was a hopping spot and seemed to be doing a great business. We can definitely recommend the chicken fried steak and the sweet potato tater tots.

Here’s a peek at the inside of The Cow. Adorable. Not only was the food great, the atmosphere was country fun.

This painting hung on the wall of the ladies restroom. I thought it would look really great in my kitchen, but the waitresses said I couldn’t have it. Even with the offer to trade books for it. I gotta step up my game!

We drove to another community (Chetopa, KS) and came back through Welch again.  A beautiful late afternoon sky.

Then as we were coming through Big Cabin to go home…

If the 50 foot tall Indian Chief, Standing Brave isn’t enough to capture your attention, check out the Shoney’s Big Boy in the background. How long has it been since you’ve seen one of those? Yep, I promise I took this picture in 2021. Here’s a little bit more on Standing Brave.

I just love seeing the American flag on the hay bales! God bless America!

I hope you enjoyed seeing all the pictures from the Welch, OK, Amish community.
